Michael Horton is the Minister of Evangelism at Gate City. Michael was called to preach in August of 1997 while on a youth mission trip. He preached his first sermon when he was 13 and was licensed to preach by Gate City in October of 2001. Since then Michael has been on several mission trips, participated in many local projects, and served on the Mission Committee.

He is now focused on reaching the lost souls that are just outside the church’s windows. “I plan to reach the lost world around us by starting just outside our door. There are many lost people within seeing distance from the church. Isn’t time that we help them find the Way?” Michael’s goals are to equip the saints within the church, mobilize the equipped, and reach the lost. This cycle will continue until the whole world calls upon the name of the Lord.

Michael also aims to start new ministries that allow the church to find common ground with the world. “I like to call them ‘Out of the Box Ministries’.” These “Out of the Box Ministries” include Motorcycle Ministry, Four-Wheeling Ministry, Fishing Ministry, Single Mom Ministry, Debt-free Ministry, etc. “The goal of these ministries isn’t to become the world, but to find common ground on which we can share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” He also plans to start some more traditional ministries such as an Apartment Ministry, Emergency Service Ministry, Prison Ministry, etc.

“I Corinthians 9:22 says ‘I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.’ I believe this is very important because if we only sit at church, never speak at work, and stay negligent at home; the world will die and go to Hell. Jesus didn’t give up on the world and nor will I. It is time for the church to take a stand and move beyond our walls; and when we do, ‘the gates of Hell shall not prevail’!”
