Those who know Chan describe him as a “people person.” He has a
shepherd’s heart and a passion for helping and building up God’s
people within the Body of Christ.
At the age of 39, God called Chan to leave a 17-year business career
to enter the ministry. He entered seminary fulltime while serving on
staff part time as an intern with Calvary Baptist Fellowship in High
Point, where he worked in youth and fellowship ministries. Chan
graduated from Houston Graduate School of Theology (High Point, N.C.
campus) in May of 2002 and was ordained into the Gospel ministry at
his childhood church, Eagle Springs Baptist in August 2002. In the
Fall of 2002, Chan completed twelve weeks of training in pastoral care
through the Department of Chaplaincy & Pastoral Education at North
Carolina Baptist Hospitals, Inc., Wake Forest University Baptist
Medical Center, in Winston-Salem.
Chan joined Gate City Baptist in January of 2003 to serve as
Minister of Spiritual Development & Care. In that role, Chan
oversees education and discipleship, including Sunday School, small
group Bible studies and the senior adult, women’s, men’s and
fellowship/recreation ministries. As Minister of Care, he has the
opportunity to offer loving support and visitation to the homebound,
hospitalized, grieving and others in need. He also has a leadership
role in the Gate City Baptist Church C.A.R.E.
Ministry (Christians Actively Reaching Everyone).
He and his wife, Kim, live in Jamestown have two children, Paul, a
student at Ragsdale High School, and Ashley, a student at Jamestown
Middle.
